Implicit standard Jacobi gives high relative accuracy

چکیده
We prove that the Jacobi algorithm applied implicitly on a decomposition A = XDXT of the symmetric matrix A, where D is diagonal, and X is well conditioned, computes all eigenvalues of A to high relative accuracy. The relative error in every eigenvalue is bounded by O(εκ(X)), where ε is the machine precision and κ(X) ≡ ‖X‖2 · ‖X−1‖2 is the spectral condition number of X . The eigenvectors are also computed accurately in the appropriate sense. We believe that this is the first algorithm to compute accurate eigenvalues of symmetric (indefinite) matrices that respects and preserves the symmetry of the problem and uses only orthogonal transformations.

High-Order Navier-Stokes Simulations using a Sparse Line-Based Discontinuous Galerkin Method
We study some of the properties of a line-based discontinuous Galerkin (DG) scheme for the compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. The scheme is based on fully unstructured meshes of quadrilateral or hexahedral elements, and it is closely related to the standard nodal DG scheme as well as several of its variants such as the collocation-based DG spectral element method (DGSEM) or the spe...
متن کاملHigh-accuracy alternating segment explicit-implicit method for the fourth-order heat equation
Based on a group of new Saul’yev type asymmetric difference schemes constructed by author, a high-order, unconditionally stable and parallel alternating segment explicit-implicit method for the numerical solution of the fourth-order heat equation is derived in this paper. The truncation error is fourth-order in space, which is much more accurate than the known alternating segment explicit-impli...
متن کاملHigh-order DNS and LES simulations using an implicit tensor-product discontinuous Galerkin method
This paper describes an efficient tensor-product based preconditioner for the large linear systems arising from the implicit time integration of discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretizations. A main advantage of the DG method is its potential for high-order accuracy, but the number of degrees of freedom per element scales as p, where p is the polynomial degree and d is the spatial dimension. Stan...
متن کاملConvergence of Implicit Monotone Schemes with Applications in Multiphase Flow in Porous Media
Phase-based upstreaming, which is a commonly used spatial discretization for multiphase flow in reservoir simulation, naturally gives rise to implicit monotone schemes when implicit time-stepping is used. The nonlinear Gauss-Seidel and Jacobi algorithms are shown to converge to a unique bounded solution when applied to the resulting system of equations. Thus, for 1D problems, we obtain an alter...
متن کاملThe Impact of Explicit and Implicit Recasts on the Grammatical Accuracy of Iranian EFL Learners’ Writing Performance
The present study aimed at investigating the effects of explicit and implicit recasts on Iranian EFL learners' acquisition of English relative clauses. For this purpose, 64 participants were selected out of 94 intermediate level EFL learners at Falagh language Institute, Rasht, Iran. To have homogenized groups, the researcher administered a language proficiency test (TOEFL). Then, the researche...
